NZ Customs Service - Safe, Fit and Well entry

Safe, Fit and Well is a holisitic wellness programme introduced by the New Zealand Customs Serivce, designed to support staff’s well-being as well as strategic organisational goals.  The programme is largely voluntary with mandatory elements for operational staff.  It is based on the 3 components of – Safe – Fit & -Well.

It has now been 2 years since its introduction into the NZ Customs culture and is now firmly imbedded.  It has supported key strategic organisational goals including improvement in HR Metrics, in areas such as engagement, turnover and sick leave, as well as staff all over the country taking personal responsibility for improving their lifestyle and well-being.

The judges were particularly impressed with the comprehensive nature of their programme which demonstrates a really good balance between Health, Fitness and Wellness.  They were impressed with the leadership buy-in and the range of personal choices available for individuals within the programme.
