- All entries will be judged by a Regional Judging Panel.
- Regional winners of either Merit OR Distinction Awards announced and celebrated at regional branch events.
- Those that win Distinction Awards will then be put forward for National Judging.

- Those that are short listed will then be invited to Wellington to take part in the final judging process which consists of a 10-15 minute presentation/interview to the National Judging Panel in Wellington on the day of the Gala Awards Presentation (November 2011). The presentation/interview will form the last step in the judging process, after which an overall winner will be decided and announced at the function that evening.

Overall Winners: Awarded at the National Gala Awards Presentation evening in November 2011, recognising the top entrant in each category.
Special Recognition Awards: The National Judging Panel has in the past had discretion to award special recognition awards in any sector. ie. Public Sector, Not for Profit etc. It is hoped this will once again be so in 2011.
What’s in it for you?
All Distinction Award Winners in 2009/2010 had the option of undergoing a behavioural and competency analysis assessment provided by Winsborough Ltd. This also included a feedback session to discuss the assessment between the Distinction winner and Winsborough. The results did not form part of the judging process, but it is hoped to once again offer this in 2011.
Responsbility of the Winners:
All three award winners will become ambassadors for the Institute and the profession for the year following their win. As ambassadors it is important that winners have credibility within their own organisation and the wider HR community. As an ambassador you may be asked to:
- Speak at branch events
- Speak at the annual conference
- Speak and participate in a range of business events
- You will also be a role model for emerging HR practitioners and receive national media coverage
- All Distinction Award Winners will have the option of undergoing an assessment provided by Winsborough Ltd. This is optional, and the results are not part of the judging process. Assessment for all Distinction Winners, will be based on the Three Hogan Leadership Series report to give them behavioural and competency analysis as well as development recommendations at a leadership level. A feedback session will also be provided by Winsborough to each winner with one of their senior consultants, (either face to face or over the phone as required) and the Distinction winners.
The criteria for the categories have now been aligned with the new competency framework and winners in the specialist and generalist categories will become professional member of the Institute (if not already).
