Award Winners
Statement by Craig Morris - last year's winner of the HR person of the year
Being awarded HR Person of the Year by one's professional colleagues is an incredible honour and one that I certainly won’t forget.
I found the application process very thorough and the judging process to be rigorous. Making a presentation to a National Judging Panel of impressive individuals, and fielding questions from them, demonstrated that HRINZ was determined to ensure that their high expectations were met. The Awards Dinner is always a hi-light of the HRINZ year and the ceremony is a bit like what I imagine the Academy Awards must be like. I certainly hadn't expected to be the recipient of the Regional, the Generalist (national) and the Supreme awards, and was at a loss for words at the end.
In the year since the Awards, I have been invited by a number of organisations to speak at meetings, and publications have asked me to write articles for them. I think the Awards play an important role in raising the awareness and understanding of our profession and affords the opportunity to promote both the value that our work brings and also to promote the organisation that makes it all possible - HRINZ.
I encourage senior leaders of both public and private sectors to give serious consideration to nominating their HR people who have gone the extra mile to strengthen the employee engagement in their organisation.
I am looking forward to participating in the upcoming 2011/12 Awards process and wish my successor all the very best for their year!
Kind regards
Craig
